August 21, 2025, 9:00am-9:45am PDT: AAGL/Romanian Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery in Gynecology: Radical Trachelectomy in Reproductive Aged Women: Balancing Oncologic Surgery and Fertility Goals

Vaginal radical trachelectomy (VTR) has revolutionized fertility-sparing surgery in cases of early-stage cervical cancer, offering hope to women wishing to preserve reproductive potential without compromising oncologic safety. First pioneered by Dargent in 1994, this minmal invasive surgical technique enables removal of the cervix and parameters while maintaining the uterus, thus enabling the patient to achieve future pregnancies.

This webinar will explore the surgical technique of VRT, highlighting operative steps, including uterine artery preservation, parametrial resection, and the critical role of isthmic cerclage. We will discuss patient selection criteria, identifying optimal candidates and situations where alternative approaches are indicated.

Participants will gain valuable knowledge into oncologic outcomes, recurrence risks, and how key tumor characteristics—such as tumor size, lymphovascular space invasion, and deep stromal invasion—impact prognosis. The session will also explore the fertility and obstetric outcomes following VRT, addressing pregnancy rates, common complications such as cervical insufficiency and preterm birth, and strategies to optimize reproductive success, including cerclage placement and surveillance protocols during pregnancy.

Emerging innovations, such as sentinel lymph node mapping and neoadjuvant chemotherapy for larger tumors, will also be reviewed, alongside future directions aimed at improving both cancer control and fertility preservation.

By the end of this session, attendees will be equipped with practical knowledge to counsel and manage reproductive-aged women considering VRT, balancing oncologic safety with the desire for future childbearing.

August 28, 2025, 5:00pm – 6:00pm PDT: AAGL Urogynecology/Vaginal Surgery SIG WebinarWhen Mesh Goes Wrong: Surgical Management of Complex Cases and Important Peri-Operative Considerations

Mesh-augmentation for prolapse and incontinence procedures gained popularity in the 1990’s and has continued to be a mainstay of treatment for these conditions. When used properly, these materials can be associated with high rates of symptom resolution and patient satisfaction. While uncommon, mesh complications can arise and be associated with significant negative sequelae. The goal of this lecture is to provide gynecologic surgeons with a greater understanding of mesh properties used for these procedures, the clinical applications for mesh, and the contraindications for its use. Additionally, even if these procedures are not a part of one’s clinical practice, caring for patients with a history of mesh will be. As such, considerations for diagnosing and managing prolapse and incontinence mesh complications will be highlighted with case-based discussions.

Webinar Description: This essential webinar equips gynecologic healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, respond to, and support patients who are survivors of intimate partner violence and human trafficking. Through evidence-based approaches and practical guidance, participants will learn to recognize warning signs, implement trauma-informed care principles, and connect patients with appropriate resources. This comprehensive program addresses the critical role healthcare providers play in breaking cycles of violence and exploitation while ensuring patient safety and confidentiality.

Webinar Objectives: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify key indicators and warning signs of intimate partner violence and human trafficking in clinical settings
  2. Implement trauma-informed care approaches when interacting with survivors of violence and trafficking
  3. Demonstrate appropriate screening techniques and communication strategies for sensitive patient interactions
  4. Utilize community resources and referral networks to provide comprehensive support for survivors
  5. Apply safety protocols and documentation practices that protect patient confidentiality while meeting legal requirements
