New Board Members and Foundation Priorities For 2025

Happy New Year!

As we step into a new year, I reflect with gratitude on the journey and contributions of the Foundation of the AAGL (FAAGL). Since joining the Board of Directors in 2021, I’ve witnessed the unwavering dedication of the Foundation and its Board members to advancing our shared mission of improving women’s healthcare. Now, as President of the Foundation, I am energized by the opportunity to continue building on over four decades of giving, collaboration, and advocacy for learners, associates, and women’s health.

My vision for the Foundation focuses on three key priorities:

  1. Expanding Global Outreach Programs – to ensure women worldwide benefit from cutting-edge surgical techniques and compassionate care.
  2. Fostering Diversity and Inclusion – bringing varied perspectives to the table to enhance innovation and equity.
  3. Increasing Awareness – strengthening understanding of the Foundation’s vital role in supporting our members and the broader gynecologic community.

Our Board of Directors includes 12 incredible leaders from diverse backgrounds, united by a commitment to enhancing the Foundation through philanthropy. I extend my heartfelt thanks to each of them for their time, wisdom, and generosity.

I am also delighted to welcome three new members to the Board for the upcoming term:

Javier Magrina, MD

Javier returns to the Foundation Board as the 2025 Secretary/Treasurer and is set to assume the Presidency in 2027. A distinguished leader and mentor, Javier has profoundly influenced the careers of countless students, residents, fellows, and gynecologic surgeons through his exceptional training, lectures, and mentorship. His vision and experience will be instrumental in shaping the future of the Foundation.

Cheryl Iglesia, MD, FACOG

Cheryl joins us with an impressive career as Section Director for Urogynecology at MedStar Health in Washington, DC. With 25 years dedicated to advancing care for women with pelvic floor disorders, Cheryl has also been a champion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), exemplified by her role in establishing the Foundation’s NCAPS DEI research award. Her passion and expertise will be invaluable as we pursue our mission.

Mark Woodland, MD, MS, FACOG

Mark brings a wealth of experience as a leader in graduate medical education and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.  As a professor and Associate Dean at Drexel University College of Medicine, his nearly 30-year career has been dedicated to training and mentoring physicians. Mark’s contributions to ACOG and CREOG, along with his involvement in the development of EMIGS, position him as a key asset to our Board.

Together, with this remarkable leadership team, we are poised to achieve incredible things. The Foundation remains committed to its mission, guided by our four pillars: education, mentorship, global outreach, and patient awareness.

How You Can Support Us
We invite you to join us in making a difference. Whether through monetary donations, volunteering in global outreach initiatives, donating medical equipment or supplies, or funding awards, your contribution will directly impact women’s health worldwide.
